Edit animated GIFs without installing anything

Animated GIFs are still the easiest way to share a short loop in chats, documentation, bug reports and forums, but they often need small fixes: the animation is too slow, it ends with a few useless frames, it should play backwards, or the file is simply too big to post. This GIF editor handles those everyday edits in one place. Drop a GIF and every frame appears as a thumbnail together with its delay, while a live preview plays the animation exactly as it will be exported.

Everything runs locally in your browser. The GIF is decoded with gifuct-js, each frame is rebuilt at full size (respecting the GIF disposal rules so partial frames display correctly), and the result is encoded again with gifenc. Nothing is uploaded, there is no watermark and no account is needed.

Speed, direction and frames

The speed multiplier scales every frame delay at once, so the rhythm of the original animation is preserved: 2× plays twice as fast, 0.5× plays at half speed. Reverse plays the frames backwards and boomerang plays them forward and then back again for a seamless ping-pong loop. Click any thumbnail to remove that frame from the output — click it again to bring it back. Remove every 2nd frame quickly halves the frame count, which is a simple way to shrink long screen recordings.

Keeping the file small

GIF file size grows with the number of frames, the pixel dimensions and the amount of change between frames. Reducing the output size to 75% or 50% has the biggest effect, followed by removing frames. Each frame is quantized to its own 256-color palette, and transparent pixels are kept. After encoding, the tool shows the original and the new size so you can try another combination before downloading. The animation always loops forever, which is what most platforms expect.

How to use

  1. Add a GIFDrop an animated GIF; all frames are decoded and shown as thumbnails.
  2. EditChange the speed, reverse or boomerang the animation, remove frames and pick an output size.
  3. Create GIFPreview the animation live, then click Create GIF to encode it.
  4. DownloadCompare the new file size and download your edited GIF.

Frequently asked questions

Is my GIF uploaded to edit it?
No. The GIF is decoded, edited and re-encoded in your browser with the gifuct-js and gifenc libraries. The file never leaves your device.
How do I make a GIF faster or slower?
Choose a speed multiplier. 2× halves every frame delay and 0.5× doubles it. Browsers do not play delays below 20 ms reliably, so very fast settings are capped at that value.
How can I reduce the GIF file size?
Remove frames (for example with Remove every 2nd frame), reduce the output size to 75% or 50%, or shorten the animation. Fewer and smaller frames mean a smaller file.
Why do colors look slightly different after export?
GIF allows at most 256 colors per frame. Each frame is re-quantized to its own 256-color palette, which is usually close to the original but can add slight banding in gradients.
