Add a text watermark without uploading your photo

A watermark can identify ownership, mark a draft, label a proof or discourage casual reuse of an image. This add watermark tool keeps the process simple: upload a photo, type the text you want, choose a position and download a new PNG. The original file stays untouched and the watermarked copy is created entirely in your browser.

Because the tool uses the Canvas API locally, it is suitable for client proofs, private product images, screenshots and personal photos that you do not want to send to an online service. The live preview updates as you change the wording, font size, color, opacity or 9-grid position, so you can find a balance between visibility and a clean presentation before saving.

Making a watermark readable but not distracting

A good watermark should be clear enough to survive sharing but subtle enough that the image still looks professional. White text with medium opacity works well on darker photos; darker text can be better on pale backgrounds. Corners are common for portfolios and ecommerce images, while a centered watermark is stronger for proofs or drafts. If the image contains busy texture, increase the font size or opacity until the text remains legible at thumbnail size.

Best uses for browser-based watermarking

This tool is designed for quick, practical exports: adding a studio name before sending previews, labeling marketplace photos, marking mockups as confidential or placing a simple credit on social media images. It does not replace a full design app for complex tiled patterns or brand templates, but it is fast and private when you need one clean text overlay. Downloaded files are PNGs, which keeps the rendered text crisp and avoids an extra quality slider.

Settings at a glance

You can change the text, font size (12 to 240), color, opacity (5 to 100 percent) and one of nine positions. The watermark is a single line of text. Because it is drawn onto the exported pixels, it cannot be removed by toggling a layer, but a determined person can still crop or retouch an image, so treat it as a deterrent and a label rather than real protection. For important work, publish only resized copies and keep your full-resolution originals private.

Since the output is a new PNG copy, keep the original untouched and compare both at full size before publishing. If the text is hard to read, raise the opacity or pick a color that contrasts with the area it covers.

Frequently asked questions

Is the watermark applied on a server?
No. Your image is drawn to a browser canvas and the watermark is rendered locally before download.
Can I change the watermark position?
Yes. Choose any corner, edge, center or middle position from the 9-grid selector.
Does this overwrite my original image?
No. The tool creates a new PNG download and leaves your original file unchanged.
What opacity works best?
For photos, 35–55% is usually visible without being distracting. Use higher opacity for proofs or drafts.
