Find the exact color of any pixel

Designers, developers and crafters regularly need the precise color code of something they see in a picture: a brand color in a logo, the background of a screenshot, a shade from a product photo or the tone of a painting. This image color picker lets you open any image and click a pixel to read its color. A circular magnifier zooms in on the area under your cursor so you can hit the exact pixel, even on thin lines, small text or anti-aliased edges. Every color you pick is copied to your clipboard as a HEX code and added to a history row for later. The image never leaves your device because all reading happens on a local canvas.

HEX, RGB, HSL and CMYK explained

The picker shows each color in four notations. HEX, such as #1E90FF, is the compact form used in CSS, HTML and most design tools. RGB lists the red, green and blue channels from 0 to 255 and is handy for code and image editors. HSL describes hue, saturation and lightness, which makes it easy to create lighter or darker variations of the same color. CMYK gives an approximate cyan, magenta, yellow and black mix for print; for exact print matching, check the value against your printer's color profile. Click any value to copy it in that format.

Tips for accurate picks

Photos and JPEG images contain noise, so neighbouring pixels can differ by a few values. Enable Average 5Γ—5 pixels to sample a small area and get the color your eye actually perceives. Use PNG screenshots when matching interface colors, since they are lossless. In Chrome and Edge, the Pick from screen button can sample colors from anywhere on your display, including other windows. To pull the main colors of a whole picture at once, use the image palette extractor, and check text readability with a contrast checker before using your picks in a design.

Frequently asked questions

Is my image uploaded?
No. The image is drawn on a canvas in your browser and colors are read from it locally. Nothing is sent to a server.
Which color formats do I get?
Every pick shows HEX, RGB, HSL and CMYK. Click any value to copy it; clicking the image copies the HEX code automatically.
Can I pick a color from outside the image?
Yes, in Chrome and Edge. The Pick from screen button opens the browser's eyedropper so you can sample any pixel on your screen.
Why does the color differ slightly from my design app?
Browsers convert images to the sRGB display profile, and JPEG compression adds noise. Turn on Average 5Γ—5 pixels to get a more representative color from noisy photos.
