PNG to ICO Converter
Convert a PNG or image into a real multi-size ICO favicon file in your browser, with no uploads.

Favicons still often use the ICO container because one file can hold several icon sizes. A browser tab, bookmark, desktop shortcut and Windows shell can each choose the best size from the same file. This PNG to ICO converter turns one source image into a real multi-size favicon containing 16, 32, 48, 64, 128 and 256 pixel entries. Drop in a logo, mark or square PNG, preview the generated sizes and download a ready-to-use .ico file.
The conversion runs completely in your browser. The page loads your source image, center-crops it to a square, draws it to several canvas sizes and packages those PNG-encoded canvases into an ICO structure. Your logo is never uploaded, which is helpful for unreleased brands, client work and private projects. The generated file uses embedded PNG images, a modern ICO feature supported by current browsers and operating systems.
Preparing the source image
Use a simple, high-contrast source for the best favicon. Tiny icons cannot show fine text or thin details clearly, so bold shapes and clear silhouettes work better than complex screenshots. A square transparent PNG is ideal because the crop will keep the whole design and preserve the alpha channel. Rectangular images are automatically center-cropped so the icon remains square instead of stretched, but you may want to crop the source manually if the important subject is not centered.
How to use the ICO
After downloading, place the file in your site project and reference it from your HTML, framework
metadata or static assets. Many sites still include a line such as
<link rel="icon" href="/favicon.ico"> for broad compatibility, often alongside
PNG or SVG icons. Check the smallest previews before publishing: if the 16 pixel version looks
muddy, simplify the artwork or increase contrast, then generate the ICO again.
File size and caching
The ICO contains six PNG-compressed entries, so it is larger than a single 16×16 icon but still small for a simple logo. Browsers cache favicons aggressively, so after replacing the file you may need a hard refresh, or to clear the site data, before the new icon appears. If you also want separate PNG files for Apple touch and Android icons, the favicon generator on this site creates them.
The converter accepts any image type your browser can open, not only PNG, and names the download after your source file with an .ico extension.
Everything is processed locally, so unreleased logos stay private.
