Resize animated GIFs without losing the animation

Most image editors flatten a GIF to a single frame when you resize it. This GIF resizer keeps every frame, every delay and the transparency, so the result plays exactly like the original β€” just at the size you need. Enter a width or height in pixels, scale by percentage, or use a preset such as 128Γ—128 for Slack and Discord emojis or 480 px wide for a blog post.

The GIF is decoded in your browser, every frame is rebuilt at full size and redrawn with high-quality smoothing, then encoded again. No upload, no watermark and no sign-up β€” the file stays on your device.

Change the speed of a GIF

The same tool works as a GIF speed changer. A speed multiplier scales all frame delays at once, keeping the original rhythm: 2Γ— plays twice as fast and 0.5Γ— plays at half speed. If the source has uneven timing, choose Fixed frame rate and set a value such as 10 or 15 fps to give every frame the same delay. The status line shows the new loop duration before you encode. Note that GIF stores delays in hundredths of a second and browsers slow down anything under 20 ms, so the fastest useful rate is 50 fps.

Changing the shape

Turn off Keep aspect ratio to set width and height independently. Then decide how the animation fills the new frame: Stretch distorts it to fit, Crop to fill scales it up and trims the edges, and Fit keeps the whole animation visible with transparent bars around it. Smaller output sizes also make the file much lighter; for further savings use the GIF compressor afterwards.

Frequently asked questions

Is my GIF uploaded?
No. Resizing and re-timing happen entirely in your browser with gifuct-js and gifenc. The file never leaves your device.
Can I resize a GIF without distorting it?
Yes. Keep aspect ratio is on by default. If you enter a different shape, choose Crop to fill or Fit with transparent bars instead of Stretch.
How do I speed up or slow down a GIF?
Pick a speed multiplier such as 2Γ— (twice as fast) or 0.5Γ— (half speed), or choose Fixed frame rate to give every frame the same delay. Delays below 20 ms are capped, because browsers play them slower.
Will enlarging a GIF make it sharper?
No. Upscaling interpolates the existing pixels, so the GIF gets bigger but not more detailed. It is useful for small pixel art or to meet a minimum size.
