PNG is a lossless format that's perfect for graphics and screenshots, but the files can be large and PNG isn't always accepted where a photo is expected. Converting PNG to JPG dramatically reduces file size and gives you a universally supported photo format — ideal for email attachments, web uploads and forms that reject PNGs.
This converter does everything locally. When you drop a file in, your browser decodes the PNG, paints it onto a canvas (filling any transparent pixels with the background color you picked, because JPG can't store transparency) and re-encodes it as a JPG at your chosen quality. Nothing is ever sent to a server, so even sensitive images stay on your machine.
Choosing the right quality
JPG uses lossy compression, which means higher compression = smaller files but more visible artifacts. For most photos, 80–90% quality is the sweet spot: the file is much smaller than the PNG while looking visually identical. Drop the quality to 60–70% when you need the smallest possible file and minor softening is acceptable.
PNG vs JPG — which should you use?
Use PNG for logos, icons, line art and anything needing a transparent background or pixel-perfect text. Use JPG for photographs and complex images with lots of colors, where its compression shines and the lack of transparency doesn't matter. Converting from PNG to JPG is the right move whenever you have a photo saved as PNG and want a smaller, more portable file.
Transparency and background color
The background picker defaults to white. Fully transparent pixels are filled with that color, and semi-transparent edges, such as soft shadows, blend into it. Pick a color that matches the place where the JPG will be shown to avoid a visible halo around a logo. The tool keeps the original dimensions and accepts several files at once, using the quality slider (10–100, default 90) for every one of them.
Sharp text, thin lines and flat color areas show ringing artifacts at lower quality, so keep screenshots at 90 or higher, or leave them as PNG. Avoid saving the same JPG again and again, because each round of lossy compression adds more damage.
The converted file is named after the original with a .jpg extension and downloaded automatically.
Transparency cannot be restored later, so keep your PNG original if you may need it again.
